Manifesto

Early in, early out as the old adage goes.  Show up early, leave early.  Fine for most, but not all.

I grew up swimming for the Mission Viejo Nadadores under the legendary hall of fame coach, Bill Rose.  Not a household name for the majority of Americans, but legendary in the world of swimming.  While most people these days focus on quality over quantity, the MVN way a lot of both - often putting in 100k of quality swimming per week.

Coach Rose always jokingly said “early in, early...” conveniently dropping off the “out” part of a the phrase.  It’s this ethos of putting in time, focusing on the process, and working incredibly hard that I believe has been lost over time through NCAA max training limits, proliferation of technology, and our “quick hack” culture.

Of course it’s important to stay at the head of the curve, but when combined with some good old grit, it’s incredible what can result.

While rarely in the pool and more focused on cycling and a professional career these days, it’s my hope that this site will be a place for like minded people to honor this mentality through training blogs, interviews, and other features.  No doubt it will iterate and morph many times, but I appreciate you stopping by and joining me for the ride.

Early in early...

Charlie
